The communications director of Florida's Republican Party has decided to leave his job because of Donald Trump, according to a BuzzFeed report published Monday.

"I'm thankful for my almost two years with the Florida GOP, however, moving on gives me a great, new opportunity to continue promoting free market solutions while avoiding efforts that support Donald Trump," Wadi Gaitan wrote in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Gaitan declined to comment further, the report said, but his friends told BuzzFeed that he couldn't accept Trump anymore because of his comments about immigrants. The report said Gaitan is of Honduran descent.

He plans to join the conservative LIBRE Initiative, the report added, which is a conservative group funded by Charles and David Koch that supports immigration reform.

Gaitan had served as the Florida GOP's communications director since May 2015. Before that, he served as the spokesman for the House Republican Conference on Capitol Hill in Washington. He has also worked as the communications director for GOP Rep. Carlos Curbelo's congressional campaign and a press assistant for Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential bid.
