(CBS News) Sunday's Olympic closing ceremony featured a star-studded performance bill with a range of British music artists. The Who, The Spice Girls, George Michael and Jessie J were among the acts taking the stage to close out the 2012 London Games.

But a few major U.K. acts were noticeably absent: David Bowie, the Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols.

According to The Guardian, all three acts turned down a chance to play the London Games.

Bowie, for one, hasn't toured since 2006, and his last studio album came out nearly a decade ago.

The members of the Stones have been hinting at a tour to mark the band's 50th anniversary, but nothing has surfaced yet. So, it's not too surprising the rockers didn't take part.

Apparently, organizers struggled to fill the closing ceremony bill with headlining groups. The Who reportedly turned down the offer twice, and The Spice Girls needed a little convincing, according to the Guardian.

Kate Bush, too, decided not to take part. Still, a remix of her song, "Running Up That Hill," made its way into the ceremony and on to the Olympics soundtrack. According to the Associated Press, Bush called the event "a brilliant show."
