Bloomberg to host fundraiser for gun bill backer, Joe Manchin
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., isn't up for reelection until 2018, but New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is nevertheless hosting a fundraiser to thank the senator for his efforts to pass gun control legislation.
Bloomberg is hosting the July 22 fundraiser at his home, according to an invitation obtained by Buzzfeed. Tickets for the event start at $1,000.

Manchin was one of the authors of a high-profile bill to expand background checks on gun purchases, which failed in the Senate in April. As he continues to work with gun control advocates on the issue, he's come under attack from groups like the National Rifle Association.
Bloomberg, meanwhile, has sought not only to reward the senators who supported the background check bill but punish those who didn't. Last month, he asked New York Democratic donors to refrain from donating to the campaigns of the four Democrats who voted against it.
