Record number of student loan borrowers fall behind on payments

After nearly five years since the U.S. government first paused federal student loan payments as a temporary relief measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Education Department's Office of Federal Student Aid has now restarted collections on defaulted federal student loans.
