Iconic Eden Prairie High School football coach Mike Grant has achieved about all you can achieve in his field. He has earned more state titles than other in the state, and he was also honored as National Coach of the Year.
The sun should be back out just in time for a big weekend on the spring high school sports landscape.
"You don't have to kick the highest or be the strongest to be good, at taekwondo," Makenna Hand said.
In Minnesota, gymnastics is not a sport offered in high schools -- they have to go to clubs.
The St. Paul charter school was founded by one of Prince's good friends, David Ellis.
Matthew Frome walks the halls of Eagan High School, where he is one busy guy. "I'm involved in everything," Matthew said. He is a friend to many; the manager of the soccer and basketball teams -- and so much more.
As a three-sport athlete at a big, suburban Minnesota school, Lakeville North's Drew Stewart is the definition of a well rounded athlete.
They had a drive to play baseball, so they found a way to practice year round.
It's where the competitiveness of sports meets the brains of science and engineering -- Robotics Club.
It seems like Andrew Lecker is everywhere at St. Paul's Cretin-Derham Hall High School. "I'm the attendance officer at Cretin-Derham Hall, and I check kids in and out of the building," Lecker said.
The Vikings are honoring Caledonia High School as their inaugural Minnesota Football Program of the Year.
Athletic training continues to get more sophisticated and more specialized. That is why the Mayo Clinic Center in downtown Minneapolis held a clinic Monday to bring in experts to talk to high school kids about what it really means to be a "healthy" athlete in a variety of ways.
Grand Meadow coach Gary Sloan is the Minnesota Football Coaches Association's 2015 Coach of the Year. Sloan coached Grand Meadow to the 2015 Class 9-Man state championship last November at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Bloomington Kennedy High School launched its brand new badminton team this spring. "There's a lot of interest. As a phy-ed teacher, every time we play badminton, the kids love it. It's one of the easiest units to teach, they get excited about it, they all want to play," Coach Todd Kennedy said.
