Women experience playing at Target Field through Minnesota Twins Fantasy Camp

It's a place where fantasy truly meets reality.

When you see a cleat step onto Target Field in Minneapolis, it's typically a man's. 

But on a recent summer day, things were different. Staci Meldy, who is part of the Twins Fantasy team, was on the field.

"I found myself looking in the stands like, 'Oh my, I am here on this field,' and it's kinda hard to take in," Meldy said.

The Minnesota Twins Fantasy Camp program is an in-person version of fantasy baseball.

Baseball is a sport Meldy and her best friends have always loved. 

"We start thinking about Twins winning the World Series," Gohmann said.

Gohmann was also on the field and is on the team.

"I played baseball my whole life. I grew up in a baseball family, brother played baseball, grew up at the ballpark and came to camp with my best friend over there, Staci," Gohmann said.

The women are part of the program. They have spring training each year in Fort Myers, Florida, and summer reunions at Target Field. It's pay-to-play for people of all skill levels over the age of 30. It came with some surprises.

Meldy and Gohmann say it's about bonding.

"At first, I thought it was about getting to know the old Twins players and getting to know them, and that's amazing, they're all amazing, but really it's about the other campers, and the camaraderie and the family atmosphere, and that's really what makes camp."

The friends process the playout of a dream. 

Fellow player Lisa Ernst says, "This is incredible to be able to play on the field that the Minnesota Twins play on and be able to experience that; it's just the most incredible thing."

A thing where everyone can play hardball.

Registration is open for the January Fantasy in-person camp in Southwest Florida. Some of the instructors include Rod Carew, Tony Oliva and Kent Hrbek.
