Five Children Injured After Truck Strikes Horse-Drawn Buggy
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man driving a truck struck a horse-drawn buggy being driven by an 11-year-old-boy in Scott, Wis. on Friday.
Six children, ages six to 11, were in the buggy on the way to school, according to Crawford County Sheriff Dale McCullick.
The buggy driver was not injured, but all five other passengers were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the truck, James Gobin, 86, stated he did not see the buggy until he hit it. The buggy had a slow moving vehicle sign, hazard and turn lights, the sheriff said.
The buggy struck the horse pulling it in the back of the legs, injuring the horse. A local veterinarian treated the animal and it is expected to recover fully, according to McCullick.
The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 61 near the Mt. Zion community. All of the children were from the Mt. Zion area, according to the sheriff.
