Behind The Scenes With St. Paul Winter Carnival Ice Sculptors

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- America's oldest winter festival is celebrating 130 years.

Saturday is the third day of the St. Paul Winter Carnival at Rice Park.

There is so much to do; from the medallion hunt to the ice carving competition -- you cannot go wrong with a visit.

The ice carving competition has been moved because of the weather. If you decide to go, it is Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Rice Park, and it ends Monday.

All Winter Carnival events wrap up next Sunday, Feb. 7 – and it is all free.

As you can imagine, it takes a lot of talent and patience to carve ice sculptures.

In the video above, Natalie Nyhus and Mike Augustyniak get a sneak peek at some of the contestants who are sharpening their skills before the big competition.
