Skydiving Mishap Delays Court Martial Sentencing

FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) -- Sentencing for an Army sergeant convicted of murder has been delayed by a military judge after the lead defense attorney in the case suffered injuries in a skydiving accident.

A Fort Stewart spokesman said Wednesday that the court martial of Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich has been postponed indefinitely while the judge gathers more information about what happened.

Bozicevich's attorney, Charles Gittins, said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that he was injured in a skydiving accident in Virginia. The trial had been in recess over the Memorial Day weekend.

A jury last week convicted Bozicevich in the 2008 slayings of Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson and Sgt. Wesley Durbin in Iraq. Jurors still must decide whether to sentence him to life in prison with or without the possibility of parole.
