Search For Mpls. Superintendent Back At Square One
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The search continues for a permanent superintendent of the Minneapolis School District after the interim dropped out of the race.
Michael Goar withdrew his name from consideration but will stay as interim superintendent until someone else is picked.
He told the board chair that his candidacy has become a distraction and withdrawing would be the best way to move forward.
Two weeks ago, the school board voted to end contract negotiations with Sergio Paez. They cited widespread public concern over allegations of abuse of special education students at his former district in Massachusetts.
Just before the board voted to give the job to Goar, their second choice, protestors interrupted that meeting.
The board decided to table the issue a month. Now they'll have to start another search. They'll meet next month to decide their next step.
