Richfield Police Warning Residents After 9 Reported Burglaries

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Richfield Police Department is advising residents to be on alert after nine residential burglaries have been reported in the city since Aug. 1.

Authorities say three of the most recent burglaries happened on the city's west side, on Bryant, Knox and Logan Avenues. The crimes occurred during the day while residents weren't home and involved breaking glass on a door to gain entry. The primary thefts were jewelry.

Police say there were also two burglaries in separate apartment buildings on Penn Avenue. There was nothing stolen in one burglary, while cash was taken in the other.

The other four burglaries all happened on the city's east side, police say. Jewelry was stolen in a burglary on Stevens Avenue where forced entry was made through the side. There were also three garage burglaries on Bloomington and 18th Avenues. In two of the incidents, the garage doors were unlocked and in the third incident, a garage door opener was taken from an unlocked car to gain entry.

Authorities say bicycles were stolen in all three incidents as well as a small amount of money and miscellaneous items.

Richfield police say the incidents are all under investigation and serve as a reminder that residents should be watchful of any suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the incidents or who sees anything suspicious should call 911 or contact Richfield police at (612) 861-9800.
