Report: Minnesota Is Losing High-Income Workers
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new report by the Center of American Experiment says Minnesota is losing high-income workers to other states.
The report found Minnesota lost $944 million in income by tax filers who moved out of state between 2013 and 2014.
It is a pretty big difference from 2011, when the state lost $490 million.
"We're not attracting people into Minnesota, so the problem really isn't … people leaving Minnesota," report author Peter Nelson said. "It's the fact that these top earners are not coming to Minnesota and getting jobs."
Nelson says the big reason Minnesota is losing high-income workers is because of tax increases that were put in place in 2013.
He is hoping lawmakers will look at his report and make some changes.
