Police Make Arrest In St. Paul 'Suspicious Death'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- What St. Paul police were calling a "suspicious death" early Friday is now being called a murder and one person was arrested in connection with the crime.

Michael Sherman, 53, of St. Paul, is being held in the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in an apartment building.

Officers were called to 313 North Dale St. around 6:40 a.m. on a report that a person was injured.

They arrived and found the woman, Lelia Scott, 44, inside an apartment. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are questioning Sherman and trying to figure out what led to Scott's death. They said the crime was not random.

An autopsy will be performed and police said the cause of death will be released pending the results by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.
