Police: 1 Killed, 1 Wounded Inside Mpls. Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police say that one person was killed and another wounded in a shooting in southeast Minneapolis Wednesday morning.

According to police, the shooting happened on the 1500 block of East 28th Street at about 10:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered two men inside the house with apparent gunshot wounds. According to officials, one of the men, a 24-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A resident across the street heard two gunshots, she said, and then she called 911. Other residents heard people screaming shortly after the shootings.

"Crying! Standing out there crying," said Rodney Knight, once he saw someone crying in the street. "That's when I looked, and cops came then."

The victim's father was also shot, authorities said, but is expected to survive. He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center with serious, but not likely life threatening wounds.

"When I looked, one kid was jumping non-stop, crying," said Bebe Sharief who owns a business in the area.

The victims were shot inside their home, police said. The shooter knew the victims, so the public is not at risk, according to officers.

"Because they're not targeting random individuals," said Inspector Lucy Gerold with the Minneapolis Police Department. "There was a very specific reason they were at this house."

No one is in custody. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the tip line at 612-692-TIPS.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will be releasing the identity of the deceased victim.
