Parking Meters Could Be Added To Some St. Paul Neighborhoods

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Parking may soon cost more in some popular St. Paul neighborhoods.

According to the Pioneer Press, a parking pilot program was tucked quietly into Mayor Chris Coleman's recently released 2016 budget proposal. The program would install parking meters in at least one of 12 retail districts.

If added, this would be the first time meters have been placed outside of downtown, aside from a few meters on University and Raymond Avenues.

Areas being considered include Grand Avenue, Ford Parkway, Snelling Avenue and University Avenue.

The St. Paul City Council is expected to vote on the proposed parking location or locations in December.

The city hopes adding more meters will help with the $10 million budget deficit they face next year.
