Nintendo Announces New, Tiny NES With 30 Classic Games

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Nintendo is not messing around this year when it comes to nostalgia.

On the heels of the launch of the hyper-successful "Pokemon Go," the killer app that has catapulted the company's net value by more than 50 percent, Nintendo announced Thursday that it is releasing a new console – one that looks like a cuter version of the classic Nintendo Entertainment System.

The new NES is a mini version of the 1983 original, and it comes with modern conveniences of an HDMI cable and an AC adapter. Then, on top of this, there 30 games built-in to the console, including beloved titles like "The Legend of Zelda," "Castlevania," "Donkey Kong," and the original "Final Fantasy."

The console's proper name is the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, and it's slated to hit store shelves in November – just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The suggested retail price is $60. The console comes with one classic-looking NES controller, and additional controllers will cost $10.

The controllers will also be able to connect to Nintendo Wii remotes, allowing gamers to go full old-school when playing Virtual Console games.
