Multiple Highway Closures To Downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Metro area motorists should get ready for some major delays getting to, or from, downtown Minneapolis this weekend, from any direction.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will shut down sections of Interstates 35W and 94 for bridge work and other maintenance.

Northbound 35W will be closed from downtown, all the way into Roseville. Westbound I-94 will be closed from Highway 280 to downtown Minneapolis. Smaller sections of Eastbound I-94 and southbound 35W will also be closed in the downtown area.

Travelers will need a different route if they are heading in these areas, until 5 a.m. on Monday.

This closure in downtown Minneapolis will allow MnDOT crews to work on the Park Avenue and Portland Avenue bridges.

Along 35W, crews will be doing maintenance like repaving and other improvement projects.

The detours for westbound 94 will begin at Highway 280. Northbound 35W traffic will be detoured to 94 West, while Southbound 35W traffic will be detoured to 694.
