Movie Blog: Walker Gets $1M Grant To Digitize
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Walker Art Center announced it has received a $1 million grant to upgrade their cinema and to digitize some of the films in their collection, marking the largest grant the film program has ever received.
The grant came from the Bentson Foundation. Among the upgrades announced were new high-def digital projects, a redesign of the theater's acoustics and new seats.
"This grant from the Bentson Foundation allows us to actualize our dream of modernizing the Ruben/Bentson Film and Video Study Collection and increase the opportunities for its preservation and presentation," said the Walker's film curator Sheryl Mousley.
There are over 850 titles in the Ruben/Bentson collection, including works by such avant garde legendaries as Salvador Dali, Chantal Akerman, Bruce Conner, Maya Deren and Stan Brakhage.
And if none of those names ring a bell, it's probably past time you head over to the Walker for a visit.
