Spring storm will bring ice, snow, slush and rain across Minnesota starting Wednesday

A couple of rounds of messy weather, including rain, slush, ice and snow, are set to hit Minnesota in the coming days.

On Wednesday, clouds will increase throughout the day and temperatures will top out in the 40s, with precipitation developing by the afternoon. Expect a mix of rain and snow to the north and just rain to the south.

Conditions will really get messy starting Wednesday evening. Travel impacts are likely, especially Thursday morning, with wet snow to the northeast, rain to the southeast and a mix in between. NEXT Weather Alerts are in place for Wednesday and Thursday, and much of the state will be under a winter weather advisory starting Wednesday night.

The Twin Cities should see less than an inch of accumulation, with totals increasing as you move northwest. Central Minnesota spots like St. Cloud could see 2 to 3 inches and Alexandria is likely to get 3 to 4.

The second round will arrive Friday into Saturday. It will start as rain, then transition to wet snow, with additional accumulation possible. As of now, this system looks lighter than the first.

The Twins' home opener is scheduled for Friday afternoon. Rain will likely be moving in around game time, and temperatures will be in the low 40s with wind chills in the upper 30s.

Sunday will be colder, with lingering snow ending early.

Temperatures will rebound into the 40s and 50s early next week as conditions improve.
