Minnesota Sees Record-Breaking 70-Degree Day

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Twin Cities metro got a strong dose of spring-like weather Tuesday as temperatures rose to a record-breaking 70 degrees.

Strong southerly winds pushed up warm air from the Great Plains, giving many Minnesotans the option of leaving their jackets home for the day.

The previous record high for March 8 was 69 degrees, set back in 2000.

WCCO-TV meteorologist Matt Brickman says it's rare to see a 70-degree day in Minnesota this early in the year. The average high for this time of year is in the mid-30s.

Looking ahead, a cold front will move in, dropping temperatures on Wednesday back into the upper 40s and low 50s.
