Minneapolis Teachers OK New Contract

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minneapolis teachers have approved a new contract.

Leaders for the teachers union say 87 percent of teachers who voted approved of the new contract.

The two-year deal will cost about $11 million. Minnesota Public Radio News reports teachers won't get any cost-of-living salary increases, but other increases are available to teachers who earn advanced degrees.

The deal also incorporates payments that teachers won from a recent arbitrator's ruling on back pay.

Negotiations on a new contract start this summer.
