Father Charged With Hurting 2-Month-Old

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A father has been charged with injuring and endangering his two-month-old baby.

Nathan Edgeton was charged with two counts of malicious punishment of a child and one count of neglect or endangerment of a child -- all felonies.

Police said the little boy was brought to the emergency room on Nov. 19 with a dent in the head, fractured legs, a fractured arm, and a bruised face.

A Dakota County Child Protection Worker spoke with both Edgeton, 30, and the boy's mom. The boy's mom had no explanation of the injuries but Edgeton admitted that most of the injuries happened while he was around.

He explained that the fractured arm happened when he was dressing the child. The baby was crying and Edgeton said he had trouble getting the child's arm in the sleeve, so he forcibly pushed the baby's arm in the sweatshirt.

He explained that the dent on the baby's head happened earlier in the week when the baby flipped out of his arms when he tried to pick up a TV remote that fell on the floor. He also admitted to being frustrated and cupping his hand around the child's mouth squeezing relatively hard to keep the pacifier in the baby's mouth, which probably caused the bruise on the baby's cheek.

Regarding the fractures in the baby's legs, Edgeton said a chiropractor told him that the child needed to be stretched out and at times. He said he would hold the child by his feet, hang him upside down while the he swung the baby back and forth.

A warrant was issued for Edgeton's arrest.
