Eco Experience Features World's Biggest Paper Wad
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Fair may be for many a time to gorge on deep fried foods, or to check out the latest farm equipment, or to take a sip on one of the thrilling Mighty Midway rights.
But it's also a good time to get exposure to environmental issues affecting Minnesota. Edward Moody headed to the Eco Experience exhibit to check out some of the new things to see there.
Among them, the world's largest wad of paper, which represents just how much recyclable paper Minnesotans throw out every 30 seconds.
"Yearly, we throw away a billion pounds of paper," Pam McCurdy of Minnesota Pollution Control said. "When you throw your paper away, it's a waste. Because we have 13 companies in Minnesota that are actually quite large that take your recycled paper and use it to make other products."
The Guinness Book of World Records has been contacted about the sizable lump of pulp to get it certified and official.
Another thing you can do at the Eco Experience this year is a bike simulator meant to encourage you to use alternate means of commuting that don't pollute the environment.
The building also features a climate change exhibit, a demonstration of pollinators in your garden, and an explanation for high-performance construction methods for new homes.
Eco Experience is located in the Progress Center on Randall Avenue.
