Duluth Woman, 66, Convicted Of Pot Operation
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A Duluth woman whose daughter turned her in for having a marijuana-growing operation in her basement has been convicted.
Sixty-six-year-old Carolyn Joanna Brooks entered an Alford plea Tuesday to a charge of aiding and abetting the sale of marijuana near a school. The plea means she didn't admit to taking part in the crime but conceded there was sufficient evidence to convict her.
Her son also faces the same charge.
Brooks acknowledged having 57 marijuana plants growing in her basement. Investigators found an elaborate setup with a ventilation system, air filters and carbon-dioxide generator.
Her daughter spotted the setup and called police. She says her mother told her she was "having fun."
Brooks declined comment to the Duluth News Tribune but her attorney says Brooks feels "very sorry."
