Hennepin Co. Attorney Mulling Charges In Daycare Hanging Incident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Hennepin County Attorney is reviewing what charges to make against a day care provider accused of hanging a child.

Investigators say 42-year-old Nataliia Karia attempted to hang a 16-month-old boy in her care at the Uptown Daycare. A parent saved the child.

Karia left in her gold minivan only to hit Savlador Lema near 28th and Grand and a bicyclist near 28th and Park Avenue. Karia then tried to jump off the Park Avenue bridge but people in the area stopped her.

Lema's attorney Will Sutor says his client has broken bones and serious burns from being dragged for more than eight blocks.

"He was actually caught and dragged underneath the front of her vehicle until some witnesses had stopped and observed this and began pounding on her window to get her to stop, when he was released," Sutor said.

Lema's four-year-old daughter was in the car with him. She was not seriously hurt.

If you would like to help, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help Lema and his family.
