Curiocity: 'The Male Intellect' Opens New Century Theatre
It's the classic story we all know and love. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy asks girl to marry him. Girl accepts. Then, girl dumps boy and boy is left trying to figure out what went wrong.
OK, so not exactly classic but still.
"The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron" is a one-man show that explores this uncharted territory -- aka: the man's brain. Bobby (Robert Dubac) has just been dumped and admittedly, has no idea why. While he attempts to find answers, he searches his brain for any clues.
"There's the left and the right side of the brain -- the left side's the masculine side, the right side's the feminine side. As you can imagine, the left side is filled with a bunch of bad furniture, old pizza and beer bottles. And the right side is empty -- because we don't walk over and listen to our feminine side," Dubac said.
Not to give anything away, but his "mentors" of sorts, aren't exactly Dr. Phil. Still, he wanders this journey, looking for some kind of balance between the left and right side of his brain to try and figure out the foreign, opposite sex.
"He's basically just trying to figure out what women want, and he actually miraculously does, all while drinking a beer," Dubac said.
It's a story that just about anyone can relate to -- men, women, those in relationships and those that are not. Perhaps that's why it's been highly successful across the nation and even around the world.
"It's about men and women, it doesn't matter what language you speak, you know, it's funny," he said. "I think people in the Midwest and Minneapolis will love it just as much as everybody else."
Dubac added that as a bonus, it's really like free therapy.
"If you're planning on going to marriage counselor, come see the show first," he said. "It will probably save you a ton of money."
The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron? is now playing at the Hennepin Theatre Trust's New Century Theatre in downtown Minneapolis' City Center. The show runs to Sunday, Oct. 9. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, click here.
