Minnesotan To Meet: Concrete Pig Creator Keith Wyman

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While the style of mid-century modern continues to be popular in home design and decor, one local furniture maker is hoping his combinations of concrete and wood become a staple in your living room.

Keith Wyman is embarking on a new chapter in his career, and that's what makes him a Minnesotan to Meet.

Wyman is the owner and designer of the Minneapolis-based Concrete Pig, and he officially launched his business three years ago. However, his furniture making hobby started about a decade ago.

After working in sales for U.S. Bank for the last 10 years, Wyman decided it was finally time to give furniture making a full-time go.

"I'm super excited and super pumped. There is a lot happening the next couple of months at the very least and I just hope that momentum keeps going," Wyman said.

His chairs, tables and magazine racks combine a unique style of wood and concrete melded together.

Wyman said he's hopeful his work will not only catch the eye of customers, but soon be patent approved.

"I submitted utility and design patents on how that comes together," he said. "I think I'm going to get the design patent."

While a pig doesn't seem like the first animal that comes to mind when one thinks of furniture, the name fit perfectly to Wyman.

"Pigment. It's the color of the concrete. It's like a powdered pigment that you'll mix in with your mix. So just that word pig slowly crept in," he said.

He's hopeful that name will leave a lasting impression.

"I just love the idea of the pig itself associated with furniture," he said. "It's kind of unique. It creeps into people's minds, tough to forget."

Wyman's work can be seen at the Able Seedhouse and Brewery in Northeast Minneapolis, as well Dwelling Design in the North Loop.

He puts a pig stamp on every piece he makes, but you might have to search to find it.
