Community Working To Remove Old Army Barrels From Lake Superior
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Dozens of old barrels from a Twin Cities ammunition plant have now been recovered from the bottom of Lake Superior.
The U.S. Army got rid of about 600 barrels from the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant in the great lake between 1959 and 1962.
The Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians along with the Department of Defense funded the removal of the barrels.
Lab results are expected within a few weeks to find out if the barrels pose a health risk.
