Anoka Woman Sentenced In Death Of 3-Year-Old Son
ANOKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 41-year-old Anoka woman has been sentenced for failing to get help for her 3-year-old son who died after being severely abused, the Anoka County Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.
Elizabeth Ann Moorman will serve 48 months in prison for her role in the death of her son in September 2011. She earlier pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter and neglect of a child.
The boy victim was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids on Aug. 30, 2011. An examination found that he suffered a right cerebral hemorrhage, two collapsed lungs and retinal hemorrhaging, which prosecutors allege were a result of child abuse. He was then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. He died on Sept. 3, 2011 as a result of the injuries.
Anthony William Urban was later convicted for severely abusing the boy. After Urban abused the boy, Moorman delayed treatment for her son, despite knowing that he needed immediate medical attention.
"Both Mr. Urban and Ms. Moorman had a role in the unnecessary death of this child, and we felt charges against both parties were required," stated Tony Palumbo, Anoka County Attorney. "While we are satisfied that Ms. Moorman is being held accountable for her role in her son's death, we need to remember that an innocent child lost his life at the hands of someone who was supposed to protect him."
Urban was sentenced to over 15 years in prison on second-degree murder.
