A 'Sick Season' Of Strep Throat And How To Avoid It

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The bitter cold is back and it's enough to leave you speechless -- quite literally. Twin Cities doctors say they're treating a high number of kids with strep throat this winter.

The weather is helping the bug spread.

"A lot of small, close-knit communities of people gathering, and that's more likely to spread infections, particularly among the children," said Dr. Bernadette Clevenger, who works for the HealthEast Grand Avenue Clinic.

What you can do to stop it and stay healthy?

Staying healthy means exercising, eating fruits and vegetables, getting enough sleep and controlling stress. The most important thing to do, however, is to wash your hands.
