Sports Agenda for Monday (4/30/12)

Big Story:
The Dolphins draft was…..good. Wait, what? Plus, the Heat just crushed the Knicks and are ready for game 2 tonight. And the Marlins, to quote Rob Schneider's character in The Waterboy, "Oh No!!! We Suck Again."

Lyrics of the Day:
"I locked you out left you naked in the front yard; burned up all your clothes having nothing can be really hard. Now I'm on the run, I'd do it again; so catch me if you can. I took your car with your baby in the backseat. Wrecked your credit card, you're in debt to a deadbeat. Baby now you know how much it hurts when I caught you in the act wearing nothing but a little smirk." – Little Smirk by Theory of a Deadman (funny, funny song)

Miami Dolphins:
Well, we've been through the Ryan Tannehill pick, so let's look at the rest of the draft.
I LOVE the pick of Jonathan Martin in the second round. Kid's really smart, tough, and will plug the right side of the line immediately.
Some said the pick could signal the end for Jake Long because of some reason that is beyond me.
Yeah, Martin played left tackle in college, but he's got right tackle written all over him and will be perfect in a zone blocking scheme.
Long will adapt, he's adapted already to multiple offenses, including the single wing, so don't worry about him.
Third round
Olivier Vernon – Not sure on this one. Has loads of potential and is a solid 4-3 end who can get pressure on the quarterback. Still, a few off the field issues with him, but if he keeps his head on straight, he could be a potential starter as he improves.
Michael Egnew, TE – Okay, I'm a Mizzou homer I admit, but here's what you need to remember about Egnew. When he had a quarterback who could throw him the ball consistently, he was unstoppable and the best pass-catching tight end in the nation. And remember, before you say, well, he can't block…think of Jermichael Finley with the Packers because Egnew is a carbon copy of him.
Fourth round
Lamar Miller, RB – he's a Reggie Bush clone except he can't catch the ball out of the backfield. Still, he's fast and is a home-run threat from anywhere on the field. Put him and Bush in the backfield and then split Bush outside in motion, I'd hate to be the defense.
Fifth round
Josh Kaddu, LB – he's a run & chase linebacker who likes to harass running back. Lots of athleticism and will provide much-needed depth.
Sixth round
B.J. Cunningham, WR – he's a route runner and is more quick than fast. Should plug in nicely as a fourth receiver for the Dolphins.
Seventh round
Kheeston Randall, DT – Like this pick too. He had a tough season last year, but he's strong, has great size, and could become a quality interior defender in a 4-3 scheme, which the Dolphins will use this year.
Rishard Matthews, WR – Will probably outplay his round selection, but time will tell.
So that's it, the full Dolphins draft.
Here's something I never thought I'd write….I give the Dolphins draft a B-plus.
Everything revolves around Tannehill, but I think he has the skills and the mindset to become a solid starting quarterback.
This could be the draft that starts Ireland down the right path, but everything will come down to Tannehill's success.
I expect Tannehill to be starting either midway through the 2012 season or near the end of the season.

Miami Heat: (vs. New York Knicks, 7:00 p.m., Sun Sports)
Damn. No really, DAMN!
That's all I could say at the end of the Heat's demolition of the New York Knicks on Saturday.
When LeBron outscores your starting five by himself, that's a pretty bad sign of things to come for the Knicks.
Wade and LeBron couldn't miss from the field, combining to shoo 18-27.
Mike Miller was given the green light and chipped in with nine points, Chalmers had 11.
What I really liked was Bosh at the 5.
He completely throws New York off their game because Chandler and sometimes Stoudemire have to come so far out to defend his jumpshot.
That opens up the lanes and LeBron and D-Wade make them pay everytime.
Now, what should we expect in Game 2?
First, don't expect Stoudemire and Carmelo to combine to shoot 5-22 from the field
New York lost Iman Shumpert, so look at J.R. Smith to be elevated to possibly starting.
I honestly don't know what New York can do to deal with Bosh.
Chandler is too slow to handle him outside and Amar'e Stoudemire has some of the best ole defense in the NBA.
And if you double Bosh, either Wade or James can beat you to the basket.
Tough call.
I expect this game to be closer, but I think the Heat should come out ahead easily.
Looking down the road….
The Heat's only stumbling block in the playoffs is Boston and Chicago.
The Bulls lost Derrick Rose and Boston is already down 1-0 to the Hawks.
By the way if you want to see a blowout series…just wait if Miami plays Orlando in the second round.
The Eastern Conference is truly Miami's to lose at this point.
If they stay focused, there's no reason to believe they can't sweep the Knicks, dispose of either Indiana or Orlando, and then worry about Chicago.

Miami Marlins: (vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, 12:40 p.m. Fox Sports Florida)
Miami has assumed it's typical location in the cellar of the NL East and things don't look like they are improving at all.
Today, Miami will send Mark Buehrle to the mound to try and stop the bleeding and split the series with Arizona.
Here's how bad the Marlins have been since sweeping the Cubs.
Miami has lost 7 of their last 8 games to the Nationals, Mets, and Diamondbacks.
OUCH.
The Fish are 8-13 on the season and fading fast as April comes to a close today.
The Fish also sent Chris Coghlan and Dunn to AAA.
If you want to see really ugly….Josh Johnson is 0-3 this season. He's pitched 28.2 innings and opponents are hitting .350 off of him.
YIKES!
The Marlins better get themselves together in a hurry or the season will get away from them just as quickly.
And trust me, in Miami, if you start losing, no one will go to your brand new stadium and things will get ugly really, really quickly.
