1 dead, 2 injured in domestic-related shooting at Miami-Dade dealership, MDSO sheriff says
One man is dead and two others remain hospitalized after a shooting Thursday afternoon at a used car dealership in Southwest Miami-Dade that authorities now say stemmed from a family dispute.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz provided the update during a Thursday evening press conference, confirming that the incident at Priced Right Motors was domestic-related and not a random act of violence.
The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. in an industrial area near Tropical Park, at the intersection of SW 72nd Avenue and SW 45th Street.
Victim was suspect's half-brother, sheriff confirms
According to the sheriff, the suspect arrived at the dealership and was involved in a confrontation tied to an ongoing family dispute. During that confrontation, the sheriff said the alleged gunman shot two individuals, one of whom was his half-brother. That victim later died. The second victim is in stable condition, while the suspect remains in critical condition.
Deputies responding to the scene exchanged gunfire with the suspect. No law enforcement officers were injured. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the police-involved shooting.
Earlier in the day, officials said all three individuals had been transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Sheriff Cordero-Stutz confirmed the deceased victim was related to the suspect.
A swift response
A wide perimeter from SW 70th to 75th Avenue and Bird Road between SW 40th and 48th Streets remained closed off through Thursday afternoon as investigators continued their work.
SWAT and special response teams swept the scene, escorting at least 24 individuals to safety from the dealership.
Authorities urged the public to avoid the area and are asking anyone with information or video to contact the sheriff's office or Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains active.
