Suspect charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting man in downtown Fort Lauderdale, police say
A suspect has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in downtown Fort Lauderdale early Sunday that left a man in critical condition, police said.
At about 4:49 a.m., Fort Lauderdale police officers responded to the reported shooting in the 300 block of SW 1st Avenue. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported the victim to Broward Health Medical Center.
Police said the suspected shooter, identified as 39-year-old Willis Rellanos, remained at the scene and was detained.
Detectives are actively investigating what led up to the shooting, but upon further review of the evidence, they arrested Rellanos and booked him into the Broward Sheriff's Office jail.
Rellanos has been charged with attempted murder in the case, officials said Monday. His bond amount was not listed.
Police said the shooting victim remains in the hospital.
