$20k reward offered for information on Torrance pool party shooting that left 17-year-old dead

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information that helps investigators identify and arrest the person or people involved in a deadly shooting that left a 17-year-old dead outside of a pool party in Torrance in June.

Chyler Paton was shot at around 9 p.m. on June 18 at an end-of-the-year party, which was being held at a home in the 23000 block of Huber Avenue. He had just graduated from Culver City High School and was at the party to pick up his brother, sources told CBS News Los Angeles at the time.

Since then, investigators have been unable to identify and follow leads that led to an arrest in the case.

The reward, which was approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors last week, was announced in a statement from Supervisor Janice Hahn on Monday.

"This is a parent's worst nightmare," Hahn's statement said. "Chyler had an entire life to life until someone viciously cut it short. I cannot imagine the pain that his parents and everyone who loved him are feeling, but we are committed to doing everything we can to bring his killer to justice. Please speak up and hold them responsible."

Witnesses at the scene of the shooting said that there was gunfire from a car as people were leaving the party. It was met with returned gunfire from somewhere within the crowd, they said.

Anyone who knows more about the shooting is urged to contact Torrance police at (310) 618-5570.
