How Americans feel about cancer care
Cancer remains the nation's second leading cause of death. With so many touched by the illness, the American Society of Clinical Oncology conducted a survey on cancer-related issues. The group questioned nearly 5,000 Americans, including how optimistic people are about finding a cure for the disease within the next 50 years. Dr. David Agus joins “CBS This Morning: Saturday” to discuss the survey’s findings as well as a new editorial about regulating wearable devices that monitor our health.
Study links phone radiation to cancer in rats
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released the final results of a two-year study on cellphone radiation and cancer in rats. Scientists said they see a connection between radio frequency radiation and tumors in rats that were tested, but they also cautioned that the exposure the rats experienced is much higher than what people typically encounter. Vladimir Duthiers and Anne-Marie Green have more.
"Weed the People" documentary preview
Research has shown that cannabis has a number of health benefits, but because of federal regulations, access and further research is limited. A new documentary, "Weed the People," follows several families as they navigate finding cannabis treatments for their children with cancer. New research is bringing hope to women with a hard-to-treat type of breast cancer. A study published over the weekend in the New England Journal of Medicine found that combining chemotherapy with an immunotherapy medicine added up to 10 months of survival time for patients with triple-negative breast cancer.
