Quiet Carrollton Neighborhood At Center Of Murder Mystery

CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Questions and concerns in Carrollton as residents woke Thursday morning. One family is grieving and others are worried after police found a man dead in his home at around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Investigators said that 55-year-old Steven Vincent Lehman lived alone. Family members called police when they could not get a hold of the man and he did not show up for work.
When officers arrived at the home, they found the Lehman's lifeless body. Wednesday's homicide is only the second murder in Carrollton this year. Carrollton police spokeswoman Jolene DeVito said, "We always, of course, take it very seriously… our investigating and interviewing possible witnesses to figure out what indeed happened here. This doesn't happen in Carrollton very often."
Carrollton has one of the lowest crime rates in all of Texas.
Investigators said, once inside of the home, officers found obvious signs of a struggle.
"This is an 'all hands on deck' situation for us," said DeVito. "All of our investigators are here. Our crime scene technicians are here. Patrol is here and the investigation is underway... investigating it as a homicide at this point."
Neighbors living near the home, in the 2300 block of Peters Colony Road, said that they are not used to seeing their block draped in crime scene tape and surrounded by police cars. "It worries me," said parent Jose Cardenas. "Makes me want to think about, you know, are we safe in this neighborhood?"
Officials have not released information about how the man was killed, and no suspects have been named.
The crime scene is located just seven houses away from Furneaux Elementary School. Parents and the nearby crossing guard kept a close watch on kids walking to classes on Thursday morning. "It was really scary, because we cross kids every day here in the morning and afternoon," said crossing guard Helen Johnson. "Nothing happens over here."
