Mark Dantonio is 8-3 against Michigan since taking over as Michigan State's coach — a mark that has done plenty to endear him to the fans in East Lansing.

Mark Dantonio is happy to skip the platitudes when it comes to Michigan State's biggest rivalry.
Buoyed by their performance over the first three games, the Spartans still have the fourth best rushing offense in the Big 10.
"It means more to your fans, it means more to your players on your team from in state. And I think it's great for college football."
"We're very, very ready to go," Mark Dantonio said Tuesday. "It's been a long time coming. We sat and waited for about nine months for this opportunity, so we'll be ready."
"He's making good decisions. He's got a live arm. He's big. Understands the offense, and he can create," Mark Dantonio said about Lewerke.
According to SportsBettingDime.com, there's a decent chance Dantonio will be relieved of his coach duties before the end of this season.
"I compare this very much to our 2013 season in a lot of ways," Dantonio said Tuesday during the Big Ten Conference Football Media Days.
Both Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio land toward the top of Athlon Sports' coaches rankings.
"Mark has been on my staff for 14 years, including the past 11 at Michigan State," said Dantonio.
"I didn't even want to talk about football for the last six months because of this situation," the coach said.
Both Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio have put their respective football programs back on the map.
While there is an ongoing criminal process, we're extremely disappointed that Auston put himself in this position.
Asked what disappoints him most about the alleged incident, Dantonio said, "That it occurred."
"With spring practice beginning last weekend and preparation for a new season underway, I feel it's important to reinforce the core values and beliefs that have built and defined this program during my time at MSU.

Michigan State football announced two changes to its 2017 schedule on Thursday.
Michigan State has had enough success under Mark Dantonio that the Spartans have probably earned the benefit of the doubt — one terrible season doesn't necessarily mean the program is in decline.
At this point, the Spartans are still trying to salvage something from these last few games.
In each meeting, Dantonio had his players complete a self-survey in which they listed the things that have been bothering them.
