The Snack Attack: White Castle Gets Crunchy With Pretzel Chicken Rings [TASTE TEST]

White Castle -- you either love it or you hate it. And when it comes to their Chicken Rings, they're pretty much one of the best snacks you can have after a late night of partying, if you know what I'm saying.

Now, Whiteys (as I like to call it) is introducing a new tasty variation: Pretzel Chicken Rings. The concept is pretty simple, take a 100-percent all white meat chicken ring and cover it with a crunchy pretzel coating. Voila!

It's just too bad these rings are only available for a limited time! Their crunchiness -- and price -- can't be beat. You can get a sack of 20 for just $4.99.

Review: White Castle Pretzel Chicken Rings

Appearance: Look at all the crunchy detail! There's tons of pretzel pieces coating these things. Chicken Rings have never looked so appetizing before.

Aroma: I thought there would be a discernible scent of pretzel but the only smell I really picked up on was fried chicken.

Taste: The biggest difference between the Pretzel Chicken Rings and the regular version, is that they are actually crunchy! Regular chicken rings are kind of mushy and the breading isn't very crispy. But you don't have to worry about that with the pretzel coating, each bite is just as crunchy as the last. But I have to be honest, when I hear that something is pretzel flavored, my mind instantly thinks salty pretzel rod, not plain sourdough -- you know the difference. So, I was really looking forward to the extra salty taste the addition of pretzels would bring to the Chicken Ring. On that front I was disappointed. I peeled off some of the breading and the chunks themselves did taste like pretzel, but it was plain and unsalted.

The chicken itself isn't anything special. It's all white meat, kinda dry-ish, and pretty much just tastes like chicken. No frills here.

I splurged and got a side of warm cheese sauce for dipping -- I would definitely recommend this. Why? Because everything is better with cheese. That's really all the justification you need.

Also, I may have mentioned this before but White Castle has some of the BEST honey mustard dipping sauce among fast-food restaurants. Yes, the slightly-neon yellow color is a little off-putting, but the taste is incredible. Especially on these new Pretzel Chicken Rings. Just make sure there's some in the bag before you leave!

Pros: Crunchy, crunchy, crunchy!

Cons: The overall flavor is a little bland, which is why you desperately need the dipping sauces.

Rating: 5 out of 10 -- Flavor aside, these are the best Chicken Rings I've ever had from White Castle just because of the crunchiness.
