SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - State police continue to investigate a fatal crash on eastbound I-696 in Southfield.

Police are confirming Monday that the late night crash killed a motorcyclist.

WWJ's Zahra Huber was driving in the area and reported that a car and motorcycle crash had traffic stalled in the area of Evergreen and 696.

"It just looks like he was really badly injured - police were there and it looked like he was in the fetal position - it did not appear that he was wearing a helmet and there are pieces of his motorcycle all over the freeway," reported Huber of the motorcyclist.

Tipsters told  WWJ that a motorcyclist lost control of his bike and crashed.

It's not clear if the motorcycle was being pursued by police.

The accident had traffic backed-up and long delays along the freeway Sunday evening.
