Pot Smell Leads To Drug Raid In Broomfield Home
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- Neighbors said a dozen SWAT Team members with guns stormed the home in the 300 Block of Beryl Street in Broomfield on Thursday.
A police officer on patrol couldn't help but smell what was hiding inside the home. It was just a matter of time before his suspicions were confirmed.
"Just on the sidewalk I was able to have the smell of marijuana coming from the house," said Jerry Peters with the North Metro Drug Task Force. "What we're finding in grow houses that are inside these homes, they're not well ventilated, they're not well concealed."
The SWAT Team found 160 plants and a bunch of dried marijuana inside.
The SWAT Team was brought in because officers said grow operations are becoming more dangerous.
"We're very concerned because a lot of these houses are booby trapped, a lot of these houses are trying to protect their marijuana grow," said Peters.
The suspect, Jason Stanley, did not have a medical marijuana license and isn't a registered caregiver.
"He was able to buy a plant from a marijuana dispensary, cultivate his own marijuana in his own house, then sell the raw product back to dispensaries," said Peters.
Stanley faces charges including unlawful cultivation of marijuana and intent to distribute.
