Eric Decker Officially A 'Former' Bronco, Moving To New York Jets

DENVER (CBS4/AP)- Denver Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker is officially a "former" Bronco he's moving to New York City. The New York Jets have agreed to terms with Decker, considered by many the top free agent at his position.

Decker is now a New York Jet after signing a five-year, $36 million deal.

Decker spent all day Wednesday at the Jets' facility and had dinner with a contingent of team officials, including coach Rex Ryan. He gives quarterback Geno Smith and the offense a sorely needed playmaker and No. 1-type wide receiver.

The 6-foot-3, 214-pound Decker, who'll be 27 on Saturday, set career highs last season catching passes from Peyton Manning with 87 catches and 1,288 yards receiving to go along with 11 touchdowns. He had 85 receptions for 1,064 yards and a career-best 13 TDs in 2012.

Getting a top receiver was a priority as the Jets headed into free agency.

It was a little too rich for the Broncos because they never even made him an offer.

Decker made $1.5 million last season. That's underpaid for his kind of production.

Decker spoke to CBS4 Sports Vic Lombardi and said he's excited.

He and his wife are about to have their first child.

In an interview with the NFL Network in February he talked about what he needs to do, and he knows the NFL is all about business when it comes to new contracts.

"I would like to figure something out and stay here, but at the same time my priority is taking care of my family and making sure I set myself up the right way," Decker said. "If we can get on the same page, understand one another, that would be awesome."
