Colorado firefighters say Meadow Creek Fire in Frisco was caused by a person
Colorado firefighters are investigating a wildfire near Frisco they believe was caused by a person Saturday evening.
Summit Fire and EMS said the wildfire was reported just before 5 p.m. Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District crews also assisted with containment and used drones equipped with infrared cameras to monitor the fire. The drones provided real-time data to crews at the scene, allowing them to watch for heat pockets outside of containment lines.
The wildfire prompted the Colorado Department of Transportation to temporarily close eastbound I-70 between Frisco and Silverthorne due to low visibility from smoke. CDOT warned travelers to expect delays in the area while crews work to bring the fire under control.
In an update later Saturday night, Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District said they believed the fire was caused by a human and is under investigation.
They said aggressive fire behavior and water in the wetlands made it difficult for crews to access the area. Roughly 30 firefighters responded to keep the fire from spreading to the highway, the Whole Foods, and a nearby neighborhood.
Summit Fire said the wildfire burned approximately 6.3 acres, all on Town of Frisco property.
