Arctic air, snow could impact Denver for Broncos AFC Championship game
A reinforcing surge of cold air will be in place for the Broncos game Sunday, with a chance for light snow.
Temperatures in downtown Denver will hover near 20 degrees at kickoff, but brisk winds will make it feel much colder — closer to 9 degrees. By halftime, temperatures are expected to slip into the upper teens, with wind chills dropping to around 5 degrees. As the game winds down, wind chills could fall to zero or even below. The bottom line: it will be downright frigid, so fans should bundle up!
A wave of light snow is expected to develop shortly after kickoff. The snow will be light and fluffy, with limited accumulations.
Confidence increases between 3 and 4 p.m. for more widespread snow across the Denver metro area and much of the Front Range. Most areas can expect around half an inch to 3 inches across the I-25 corridor and plains with 1-3 across the Palmer Divide and Foothills.
Any snow that falls is likely to stick, creating slick spots on roads — especially on bridges and overpasses. Snow should taper off by around 10 p.m., but the cold will linger, with bitterly cold air settling in overnight.
