Some southwest suburban neighbors made a strong gesture on Monday to honor a Wisconsin college gymnast from Plainfield who was shot and killed last week. Those who knew 21-year-old Kara Welsh mourned her Monday morning, but also remembered the student by wrapping white ribbons around every tree and light pole in their neighborhood.
Kara Welsh was set to begin her senior year at UW Whitewater on Tuesday.
No one was injured in the crash, Plainfield police said.
Joseph Czuba, 71, has been charged with stabbing 32-year-old Hanan Shaheen – whose name has also been spelled Hanaan Shahin – and her 6-year-old son, Wadee Alfayoumi.
