The sea of blue that takes over the Friendly Confines for every Cubs home game was mixed with some pink Sunday night against the Yankees.
The Cubs are 16-15 and have often fallen behind early in games.
The two teams set an MLB record for the most combined strikeouts in a game with 48.
The Cubs rotation has a 4.79 ERA, which ranks 25th in baseball.
Castro drove in three runs against his former team, and Aaron Hicks tied a career high with four hits.
"Balls and strikes, there are unintended consequences," Cubs manager Joe Maddon says.
Hector Rondon allowed a three-run homer to Brett Gardner with two outs in the ninth as the Yankees won 3-2.
Gardner fouled off a pair of 1-2 fastballs, took a ball and then homered on his seventh pitch of the at-bat.
"He was one of the most important things we had going for us last year," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said in reflecting.
The Yankees seem to be where the Cubs were two years ago, with their young core arriving on the scene and bringing early success.
