In front of the other starting pitchers, Cubs Manager David Ross let Kyle Hendricks know he would be the Opening Day starter.
It was quite a moment for Kyle Hendricks and David Ross. Of course, the affable Ross was a bit more excited than the reserved Hendricks.
"We're excited to be playing baseball again. It's good to be back on the field, even without fans in the ballpark," Cubs executive vice president Mike Lufrano said.
Anthony Rizzo is hopeful he won't have to start the season on the injured list. The Cubs' first baseman has been a spectator the last week of camp due to his back issues.
The Cubs' upcoming season won't be normal, but it will offer them a real shot at the MLB postseason coming out of the NL Central.
"He cares. He walks around with a pep in his step and it rubs off on us and it makes us enjoy our day and coming in here and getting our work done."
