Chicago weekend shootings leave 4 dead, 22 hurt, according to police
At least four people were killed and 22 others were wounded in weekend shootings across the city as of Sunday morning.
The ages of the victims range from 8 to 64.
Shootings from Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 30-year-old man was walking outside around 8:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Fullerton Avenue when he heard multiple gunshots and then felt pain.
The victim was hit in his left knee and self-transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition.
A little over an hour later, around 9:57 p.m., an 18-year-old man also heard shots and felt pain while outside in the 2800 block of West 71st Street.
The gunman left the scene on foot, police said.
The victim was hit in his right bicep and left rib and was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
Minutes later, around 10:11 p.m., a 57-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the 10200 block of South Eberhart Avenue.
Police said someone traveling in a white SUV opened fire in his direction before leaving the scene.
The victim was hit multiple times in his body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
- At 10:39 p.m. in the 3600 block of South California Avenue, two men, both 43, were arguing with an unknown man when it turned into a fight. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot at both victims. Both were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital for treatment. One was hit multiple times and is in critical condition. The other was hit once in the left hip and back and is in good condition.
- At 11:44 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Praries Avenue, officers found a 40-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. Police said the victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
Shootings from Saturday
- At 1:50 a.m. in the 7100 block of South Union Avenue, a 33-year-old man was walking outside when he heard a loud noise and felt pain. The victim was hit in his backside and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
- At 6:57 a.m. in the 3400 block of West Monroe Street, police said a 33-year-old man was attempting to break into an apartment with multiple people inside when a 28-year-old woman discharged her gun, hitting the suspect twice in the body. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 28-year-old woman is a valid concealed carry license holder and was taken to Area 4 for questioning. Police said this incident appeared to be domestic-related.
- At 1:34 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Union Avenue, a 40-year-old man was outside of a residence when he was shot in the head and upper body. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
- At 2:42 p.m. in the 2700 block of South State Street, a 32-year-old man was outside when he was shot in his chest and shoulder. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
- At 9:41 p.m. in the 1800 block of South Hamlin Avenue, a 44-year-old man was in an argument that turned into a fight with a known man, who pulled out a gun and shot at the victim. The victim was hit once in the groin and again in the backside. He was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 12:34 a.m., police were called for a crash in the 10100 block of South Avenue M and found a silver sport-utility vehicle on its side. The SUV had struck multiple parked cars. Officers found a 20-year-old man in the SUV who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died. A 20-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in good condition.
- At 12:45 a.m., two people were outside in the 5400 block of South Shore Drive when unidentified people pulled guns and shot them both. One victim, a 37-year-old man, was shot multiple times throughout his body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, while the other, also a 37-year-old man, was shot in the right ankle and right thigh and was taken to the same hospital. Both were in good condition. A gun was recovered on the scene, and a suspect was taken into custody.
- At 2:50 a.m., three people were shot in the 7300 block of South Winchester Avenue. The first victim — a 33-year-old woman — was shot in the right knee and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The second victim — a 39-year-old man — was shot twice in the right thigh and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The third victim — a 32-year-old woman — was shot in the left leg and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital. All the victims were in good condition and were unable to provide further details to the police.
- At 2:50 a.m., a 38-year-old man was outside in the 200 block of North Halsted Street when he got into a quarrel with two men who were in a gray sedan. One of the men took out a gun and shot the victim in the chest, and he was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County. A 28-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the leg and was self-transported to the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center, where he was taken into police custody.
- At 1:55 p.m. in the 1400 block of West 83rd Street, an 8-year-old girl was shot in her left index finger while inside a residence. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition. There is no offender information, and no one is in custody.
- At 3:15 p.m. in the 11800 block of South Emerald Avenue, a 53-year-old man was found on the street unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.
- At 8:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of West 25th Street, officers arrived and found a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg and a graze wound to the back. He was treated by fire crews and was taken to Mt. Sinai in fair condition. While on scene, officers received a call that an additional victim was at St. Anthony Hospital. Officers relocated and spoke with a 64-year-old man who told them he and the other victim were in the alley when a black SUV pulled alongside and an unknown person fired gunshots from the passenger side, striking the victims. The offenders fled in the SUV. The 64-year-old was hit twice in the right abdomen, and he self-transported to St. Anthony Hospital in critical condition.
Shootings from Monday
- At 12:30 a.m., a 45-year-old woman was involved in a domestic altercation with a man inside a bedroom in a home. The woman grabbed a gun, and it discharged, going through the wall and hitting a 36-year-old man seated in the kitchen. The victim was shot in the right hip and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition. Two people were taken into custody when police came, and a gun was recovered at the scene.
- At 12:45 a.m., police found a 31-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk in the 100 block of South Springfield Avenue. Officers performed lifesaving measures on the victim until the Chicago Fire Department arrived and took him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in serious condition.
Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident.
