1 killed, 20 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings, according to police

At least one person is dead and 20 others were wounded in weekend shootings across the city as of Sunday afternoon. 

The ages of the victims range from 9 to 61.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 54-year-old man was in a backyard around 5:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of West 110th Street when he heard a loud noise and felt pain.

He was hit by gunfire in his left calf and self-transported to Roseland Hospital in good condition.

Later in the evening, just before 7 p.m., a 36-year-old man was shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 700 block of East 92nd Place.

He suffered a gunshot wound to his back and leg by an unknown person. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

Another man, 29, was also wounded while standing outside around 8:10 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Paulina Street.

Police said a black sedan pulled up, and someone from inside fired multiple shots at the victim—hitting him in his left thigh.

The gunman left the scene in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 9:14 p.m. in the 100 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found a woman who was shot in her right forearm. Fire crews arrived on the scene to treat the victim, at which time she refused medical services and left the scene. 
  • At 9:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of West 51st Street, officers responded to a call of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim stated he heard shots, felt pain, and realized he was shot. Fire crews treated him at the scene and took him to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
  • At 10:22 p.m. in the 1900 block of West 51st Street, police said several people were inside a liquor store when an argument turned into a fight between two groups. A 21-year-old woman pulled out a firearm and fired shots when a man from the same group grabbed the gun and fired additional gunshots at the victims. A man from the other group returned fire. The offenders proceeded to flee the scene. Four men, ages 48, 22, 61, and 46, and the woman were hurt by gunfire. No weapons were recovered. Police said Sunday that the woman, Angeles Flores of south suburban Riverdale, was charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in an occupied building.
  •  At 11:06 p.m., in the 2800 block of North Clybourne Avenue, police found a 40-year-old man shot in the leg. The victim did not provide further information. He was treated by fire crews and then taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 1:50 a.m. in the 100 block of South Clinton Street, a 28-year-old man was arguing with another man. The argument continued outside when the victim heard gunshots, felt pain, and realized he was shot in the leg. The offender left the scene. Fire crews treated the victim and took him to Stroger Hospital, where he was in good condition.
  • At 7:41 a.m. in the 4600 block of South Western Avenue, a man, 22, was inside a vehicle when he was grazed by a bullet in the facial area. The victim self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 11:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of South East End Avenue, a 9-year-old boy entered a room inside a residence, where he was able to obtain a firearm. A man inside the residence attempted to take the gun from him, at which time the firearm discharged, hitting the boy in the leg. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment. He was then taken to Comer Children's hospital in good condition. 

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 2:30 a.m. in the 200 block of South Lavergne Avenue, officers responded to a call of shots fired. While touring the area, they received an additional call of a person shot at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Officers arrived and found a 29-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was being treated by the hospital in critical condition.
  • At 2:31 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Hudson Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Fire crews took him to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 4 a.m. in the 6100 block of South Stewart Avenue, a 26-year-old man was inside a vehicle when it stopped at a stop sign. A white SUV pulled alongside, and someone inside fired shots at him, grazing him in the head. The offending vehicle fled the scene. The victim went to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition. 
  • At 3:26 p.m., three young men — ages 16, 18, and 23 — were outside a home in the 4200 block of West Crystal Street in West Humboldt Park when they were all shot. The 23-year-old man was shot in the neck and groin and self-transported to Humboldt Park Health in critical condition. The 18-year-old man was shot multiple times in his torso and arm and self-transported to Ascension Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital in critical condition. The 16-year-old boy was shot in his right armpit and self-transported to the same hospital in good condition. All three victims were later transferred to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.

Shootings from Monday

  • At 2:10 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Kildare Avenue, police were on patrol when they found a teenage boy on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. Fire crews treated the victim and took him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
