3 dead, 21 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, police say

At least three people were killed and 21 others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago, according to police. 

The ages of the victims range from 17 to 53.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 36-year-old man was near the street around 6:48 in the 700 block of South Springfield Avenue when he was shot multiple times in the body.

The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Later in the evening, a 32-year-old man self-transported to Christ Hospital after he was shot multiple times in the arm in the 6600 block of South State Street just after 8:30 p.m. he was treated and released.

Police said the victim could not provide additional details about the incident. 

About an hour later, a 40-year-old man was sitting inside a parked car in the 500 block of West Scott Street just before 9:30 p.m. when a man on a scooter approached and pulled out a gun. The victim also pulled out a gun.

The victim was shot once in the leg and groin. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in serious condition.

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 9:40 p.m. in the 13200 block of South Langley Avenue, police responded to a report of a person shot and found a 43-year-old man outside on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim died at the scene.
  • At 11:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of West 98th Street, a 31-year-old man self-transported to Christ Hospital after being shot once in the leg in serious condition. He told officers that he was shot at by an unknown man wearing all black. He could not provide further details of the incident. A preliminary investigation indicates that the incident occurred inside a residence. 

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 1:28 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Federal Street, a 34-year-old woman was outside when she was shot at by an unknown man who fled the scene on foot. She was hit in the leg and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. 
  • At 2:03 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Artesian Avenue, a 23-year-old man was on the sidewalk when a sedan pulled up and someone inside started shooting. The man was shot in the right arm and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 2:15 p.m. in the 5300 block of West Jackson Boulevard, a 22-year-old man was on the street when someone shot him in the right thigh. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 6:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Madison Street, a male of unknown age was in a stairwell when someone shot him in the head. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 9:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Division Street, a 53-year-old man was shot after getting into an argument with another man. The victim was shot in the head and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
  • At 10:33 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Polk Street, a 31-year-old woman was outside standing near the entrance of an alley when she heard several shots fired and felt pain. She was shot in the ankle and was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
  • At 11:24 p.m. in the 700 block of South Wells Street, a 35-year-old man was outside when an unknown man shot at him during an argument. The victim was hit in the lower back and suffered a graze wound to the chin. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in serious condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 12:23 a.m. in the 400 block of West Wellington Avenue, a 24-year-old woman was walking outside when a silver SUV approached her. Three unknown men exited the vehicle and demanded the victim's belongings at gunpoint. A physical struggle ensued, and one of the robbers shot the victim before returning to the vehicle and fleeing the scene. The victim was hit in the abdomen and was taken to Illinois Masonic in good condition. 
  • At 12:20 a.m. in the 800 block of North Cambridge Avenue, police responded to a report of a person shot and found a 41-year-old man outside on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he died.
  • At 1:45 a.m. in the 7700 block of South Kingston Avenue, a 37-year-old man and a second man of unknown age were outside walking when an unidentified vehicle approached, and a man exited the vehicle and began shooting in the victim's direction. A second man inside the vehicle also began to shoot at the victims. The 37-year-old was hit in the abdomen and was taken to U of C in critical condition. The second victim was hit twice in the hip and was also taken to U of C where he is listed in fair condition.  
  • At 2:03 a.m. in the 6300 block of South Maryland Avenue, a 23-year-old man was sitting inside a vehicle when he was approached by an unknown vehicle. Multiple people from within exited with guns and fired shots in the direction of the victim. The victim was hit in the shoulder and back. The victim was taken to U of C in fair condition.
  • At 4:45 a.m., a 23-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 2800 block of West 21st Place when he heard a loud noise and felt pain. He was shot in his left torso and self-transported to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition.
  • At 4:47 a.m. in the 3400 block of West Madison Street, an argument ensued between a 31-year-old man and an unknown person. During this, the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the back. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. There are no other injuries reported.    
  • At 9:44 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 84th Street, a 19-year-old woman was outside when she heard shots and then felt pain. The victim was hit in her left leg and was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
  • At 5:15 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was in the 2100 block of West Granville Avenue when a man came up on an electric scooter, robbed him of his belongings, and shot him. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and forearm and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition, police said.
  • At 5:46 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was riding an ATV in the 8000 block of South Sangamon Street when someone fired multiple shots in his direction. He suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 10 p.m. in the 0-100 block of East Kensington Avenue,  a 22-year-old man told officers that he was walking outside when a black vehicle drove past and he heard a loud noise and felt pain. The victim was shot in the left knee and was taken to U of C in good condition. 
  • At 11:51 p.m. in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot. The victim, a 34-year-old man, told responding officers he was walking outside when he heard a loud noise and felt pain. The victim was hit in the right leg and was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital and is listed in good condition.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in these incidents.
