2 dead, 12 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, police say

At least two people were killed and 12 other people were hurt in weekend shootings across the city as of Sunday night. 

The ages of the victims range from 14 to 61.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 14-year-old boy was near a field in the 6900 block of South Lowe Avenue around 7:41 p.m. when he was hit in the foot by gunfire.

He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.

Later in the night, just after 11 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 3300 block of West Adams Street. That's where an 18-year-old man was hit by gunfire in an alley and fled to a yard, where he was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. He did not provide any description of the gunman. A witness, however, did see a white sedan leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of East 60th Street, the victim, a 23-year-old man, was in his vehicle stopped at a red light when he heard gunshots and felt pain. The victim was shot twice in his left shin and once in the left shoulder. The victim self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in unknown condition. 
  • At 1 a.m. in the 13300 block of South Avenue M, officers responded to a call of a man between 20-30 years old who was found outside on the ground unresponsive. Officers saw that he had multiple gunshot wounds on the body. The victim died at the scene.
  • At 4:39 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Green Street, two men were near the sidewalk when they were shot. An 18-year-old man was shot in the back and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. A 24-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the back and refused treatment at the scene.
  • At 5:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of West Howard Street, near the Howard Red Line station, a 42-year-old man was on the sidewalk when he was shot multiple times. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition.
  • At 6:04 p.m., in the 400 block of South Peoria Street, two men got into a shootout after an argument on the pedestrian bridge near the UIC-Halsted stop on the CTA Blue Line. A 61-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 24-year-old man was taken into custody for questioning. 
  • At 8:20 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Cicero Avenue, officers responded to a report of a person shot and found an 18-year-old man who had been shot in the torso and back. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition. He told police he was shot by an unidentified gunman who fled south on Cicero.
  • At 9:37 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Armitage Avenue, police responded to a person shot and found a 48-year-old man outside with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was unable to provide details of the incident and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. 

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Devon Avenue, police responded to shots fired and found two men, 29 and 31, who were both shot. The 31-year-old was hit in the abdomen and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition. The 29-year-old was hit in the hip and torso and was also taken to St. Francis in fair condition.
  • At 3:29 a.m. in the 0-100 block of East Goethe Street, police found a 26-year-old man outside on the ground with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was taken to Northwestern in good condition. The victim related that he was shot at by a male offender who fled the scene in a gray vehicle.
  • At 7:30 p.m., a 25-year-old man was in an alley behind the 13400 block of South Brandon Avenue in Hegewisch when someone shot him in the groin. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made.
